Comments:
My previous work involved in dental public health education and training of dental public health specialty. In the past 20 years ago, I involved as a cofounder in minimum intervention of dental caries, namely Atraumatic Restorative Treatment (ART) which I and still actively practice. In the past 15 years, I also involved in problem-based learning (PBL) in dental education. PBL is very appropriate to dental education since dentistry is dealing with patient's oral health problem solving. Oral health problem is still a huge problem meaning high prevalence especially among people in developing world. The main reason is lack of regularly and appropriately oral hygiene practice and access to oral health care. Self-care is the key word in solving the oral health problem efficiently. In doing so, we (dental professional) need to apply our knowledge and attitude in epidemiology, social science and minimum intervention to promote and enhance people's self-care practice and access to oral health services. Our beloved King of Thailand proposed 'Sufficient economy' philosophy to apply in solving a problem and maintain good quality of life. The Sufficient Economy is composed of three main things - sustainability, moderation and broad-based development. Behind these three main things, self-dependent is the key for sufficient economy. Throughout my career, I have been involved in international oral health community by working with World Health Organization and International Association for Dental Research. I am honored to be accepted as a faculty staff at the Niigata University Graduate School of Medical and Dental Sciences. I will try my best to apply my experiences in the given assignments.
