Prof. Akinori KAMA, Prof. Hiromitsu SHINOZAKI and Dr. Ryota AKIYAMA from the WHO Collaborating Centre for Research and Training on Interprofessional Education, Gunma University visited the WHO Collaborating Centre for Translation of Oral Health, Niigata University to exchange views on the joint strengthening of the WHO Cooperation Centre.

We successfully hosted a webinar, Launch of the Regional Summary of the WHO Global Oral Health Status Report for the Western Pacific Region.
This webinar was organized to disseminate the regional summary for the WHO Western Pacific Region.
A total of 286 people from all over the world participated.
The webinar included ministerial statements from 3 countries: Fiji, Malaysia, and Australia, and panel presentations from Cambodia, China, and Fiji.

The WHO-CC for Translation of Oral Health Sciences of Niigata University has organized an international conference "Informal Technical Discussion in The Western Pacific" which was held on June 15, 2022.
Participants include chief dental technicians from 19 Western Pacific countries' Ministries of Health, Dental Health Officials from WHO Headquarters, the Western Pacific Region (WPRO) and regional offices, and WHO-CC Niigata university's staff.
During the meeting, Dr. Benoit Varenne (WHO HQ Oral health programme) explained an overview of the Global Oral Health agenda timelines, responsibilities, and perspectives, and Dr. April Lee Siwon (WHO WPRO Healthy Aging Unit) provided the oral health situation in the Western Pacific, followed by Dr. Noormi Othman (Ministry of Health, Malaysia), Dr. Jenny Stephens (Public Health Department, Republic of Vanuatu ) and Dr. Manuel Vallesteros (Department of Health, Philippines) gave presentations on oral health initiatives in their respective countries.
The second half of the meeting included three small group discussions on the feasibility of oral data collection. Together with about 80 participants, we were able to exchange views on oral health strategies in the Western Pacific.
The Niigata University WHO-CC will continue to actively cooperate with international conferences and other events.
The webinar "Life-Course Oral Health Promotion; Lesson Learnt from the Western Pacific Countries", hosted by Niigata University WHO-CC for Translation of Oral Health Sciences, was held on Monday, January 17, 2022.
Dr. Harada, Consultant, WHO Regional Office for the Western Pacific, talked over oral health promotion activities in the Western Pacific region, Dr. Stephen, Consultant, Dental Public Health, Ministry of Health, Vanuatu, and Dr. Bazar, Vice President, National Medical University of Mongolia, respectively, discussed brushing programs in Vanuatu, and oral health promotion activities in Mongolia.
We were able to communicate information about each country's situation.
Furthermore, during the Q&A session, we got numerous questions from the attendees and had a lively discussion about oral hygiene promotion.
We would like to and plan to host such webinars in the future.

WHO CC for Translation of Oral Health Science is offering a free webinar "Life-Course Oral Health Promotion; Lesson Learnt from the Western Pacific Countries" on 17th January, 17.00-18.30 Japan Standard Time (JST).
This webinar aims to share information about oral health promotion activities in Western Pacific countries.
We will welcome a speaker from WHO WPRO, a consultant of Dental Public Health, Ministry of Health, Vanuatu, and a vice president of Mongolian National Medical University of Medical Sciences as speakers.

New year party as well as welcome party for Dr Makiko Nishi was held on 31st January, 2020.
WHO officers from WHO Western Pacific Region, Manila, Philippines visited WHO collaborating center for the translation of oral health, Niigata University for a discussion regarding Japan's dental public health activities and the Japanese experiences on oral health improvement strategies in the aging population.
2019
Farewell party for Dr Takayuki Yamaga was held at the Hotel Italia-ken on 15th June. (Dr Yamaga will be appointed as professor at the Matsumoto Dental University, from 1st July).
Dr.Bandana Pathak, a postgraduate student from Mahidol University, Thailand, had visited the Department of Preventive Dentistry, Graduate School of Medical and Dental Sciences, Niigata University from 27th May to 7th June 2019.
She had observed the department's activities as a WHO Collaborating Center for Translation of Oral Health as well as attended lectures regarding global oral health.
Welcome party for new members was held.
December 2, 2018 A celebration party for an assumption of a professor at Niigata University, Dr Hiroshi Ogawa was held at Hotel Nikko Niigata.

Dr Hiroshi Ogawa was elected for an expert member of the public health committee at the FDI (106th FDI General Assembly at Buenos Aires)
Farewell party for Prof Hideo Miyazaki was held on March 29th.
Final lecture by Prof Hideo Miyazaki
Final lecture entitled "Oral Health Promotion, originated in Niigata" was given by Prof Hideo Miyazaki (Chief of the Department of Preventive Dentistry) on March 14, 2018, as memorial event of his retirement.
The party of farewell for Dr Minoru Yagi and Sayaka Tada, and welcome for Dr Mochamad Fahlevi Rizal was held on the 31st January, 2018.
The event of "World Diabetes Day" was held at the citizen plaza in Niigata on November 12th, 2017.
To increase the awareness of diabetes, health professionals including medical doctors, dentists, nurses, dental hygienists, pharmacists, nutritionists, clinical laboratory technicians, physical therapists, and fitness programmers gathered to provide scientific information for citizens.
Our department staff gave a lecture about relationship between periodontal diseases and diabetes, and oral hygiene instruction was given by dental hygienists.
Several positive comments were shown by participants through our interventions to increase knowledge and improve practice. We will continue to work for oral health promotion to prevent diabetes.
2017
The 28th General meeting for the Koushinetsu-Hokuriku Region, Japanese Society for Oral Health was held at Faculty of Dentistry, Niigata University on July 29, 2017.
Prof. Miyazaki gave a president lecture, and Dr. Kaneko, Dr. Minagawa and Dr. Watanabe gave oral presentations at the meeting.
Welcome party for the trainees from Myanmar was held on July 13, 2017. They will stay at our department to learn data handling and analysis for the next two months.
