Progress Annual Report 2018
Activity 1
Title
To assist WHO to initiate epidemiological studies and promote standardisation of data collection for oral diseases (in particular periodontal diseases) to provide quality information to the WHO Global Oral Health database.
Outcomes
1.
In order to maintain WHO Global Oral Health Database, the CC has collecting information of country based periodontal disease prevalence, through the scientific paper review. In 2018, information for China and Japan has been updated in the CAPP websites.

2.
In collaboration with WHO country office and Ministry of Health and Sports in Myanmar, the centre organized the technical workshop for developing of the oral health strategy for Myanmar based on the outcomes of National Oral Health Survey 2017.

Activity 2
Title
To support WHO in dissemination of the evidence on interrelationships oral health-general health-quality of life to strengthen oral health components into public health programmes.
Outcomes
1.
The CC worked to publish articles to strength scientific evidences on interrelationships among oral health and NCDs.
2.
The CC coordinated educational seminars for diabetic patients in the Niigata University Medical and Dental Hospital and also for general citizen in Niigata City to increase public awareness of integration oral diseases and diabetics (NCDs).
3.
The CC has led the educational guidance, "how prevention of oral diseases shall benefit to control NCDs", through the assessment oral health at the Ministry of Health in Republic of Palau.
4.
The CC conducted field survey to investigate integration between oral-general health to achieve better QOL as part of Niigata Elderly Cohort study.

Activity 3
Title
To assist WHO in application of the evidence on school oral health promotion through primary prevention.
Outcomes
1.
The CC has worked to implement a strategy for prevention and control of early childhood caries and contributed to produce a position paper.

Activity 4
Title
To expand linkages with dental public health institutions in WPRO countries and to provide post-graduate training courses in oral health promotion and disease prevention.
Outcomes
1.
Foreign academic staff acceptance
Dr. Mochamad Fahlevi Rizal (Indonesia) and Dr. Kaung Myat Thwin (Myanmar) have employed as an Assistant Professor of the Department of Oral Health Science, Niigata University, conjunct with WHOCC for Translation of Oral Health Science, to develop oral health networks in Asian region.
2.
Foreign exchange student acceptance
The centre accepted foreign exchange students from various countries including Thailand, Indonesia, Myanmar, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Canada and Vietnam as short-term base and provided scientific lectures regarding global oral health promotion.
3.
The CC provided following seminars as continuing educational training.

Activity 5
Title
To assist WHO in establishment of World Directory of Dental Schools.
Outcome
The CC co-worked with WHOHQ and WHOCC for Community Oral Health Programmes and Research (Copenhagen, Denmark) to develop the components of dental education and registration system in the questionnaire survey entitled "Oral Health Towards the Year 2030".
